The course will give a brief overview of Ultimate load design principles and plastic capacity of sections Capacity estimate of tubular joints under axial, flexural and torsional buckling will be discussed. Fundamentals of impact analysis and its application to collision problems on marine structures will be also highlighted. A brief section on fluid-structure interaction highlighting flow induced vibration will be presented. Introductory topics on reliability of marine structures including FOSM and AFSOM methods will be also discussed. Concepts of fatigue analysis and design of marine structures will be presented. The focus is on detailed explanation of topics through numerical examples.

The course will give a brief overview of different types of ocean structures that are deployed in sea for exploiting oil, gas and minerals. While fundamentals of structural dynamics are discussed, detailed mathematical modeling of ocean structures and their dynamic analysis under waves, wind and current are highlighted with special emphasis to fluid-structure interaction. Introduction to stochastic dynamics of ocean structures is also discussed with lot of tutorials and sample papers that shall intuit self-learning through the course. Focus is on the explanation of fundamental concepts as addressed to graduate students.

It will provide detailed understanding of the methods and techniques to resolve these key issues for making petroleum production and processing, cleaner and safer. This course will also highlight lessons learnt from the past accidents.

NOC:Computer Methods Of Structural Analy..

The course will give a brief overview of different types of offshore structures that are deployed in sea for exploiting oil, gas and minerals. Detailed analysis methods, as applicable to both 2dimensional and 3-dimensional structures will be discussed. While fundamentals of advanced structural analysis are discussed, detailed mathematical modeling of problem formulation and solution using MATLAB coding will be discussed. Codes for numeric examples will be also provided in the lecture notes. Hands-on experience of using Matlab will also be discussed. Focus is on explanation of fundamental concepts of advanced structural analysis, with special emphasis to its application to offshore structures.

This course deals with novelty of oshore structures and their response behaviour under special loads. These loads include earthquake loads, ice loads, shock and impact loads, ringing and springing wave loads and loads caused by crticial sea states. The course also deals with advanced structural analyses methods including unsymmetric bending and estimate of shear centre. It also deals with analysis of curved beams, crane hooks, chain links and rings and marine risers under Vortex induced motion. Fire in one of the major hazard in oshore industry. Fire-resistant design is a mandatory requirement for members exposed to high re hazards. This course will expose participants to fundamentals and explain the re-resistant design concepts through a variety of examples.

Considering the importance of offshore structures, one has to recognize that there are other intrinsic uncertainties such as material properties, analysis methods, design procedures etc, which are addressed rationally. A detailed knowledge of reliability of offshore structures using probabilistic tools becomes need of the hour for both industry and academia. Offshore activities, on one hand, lead to increase in societal wealth, and, on the other hand, make society vulnerable to risks. An offshore engineer is usually accountable for the decisions that he takes. A hallmark of professionalism is to quantify the risks and benefits involved. The present course aims to introduce the basics of the structural reliability analysis procedures. The Registrants would benefit from the course by learning the basics of reliability-based design and principles underlying code calibration, which would provide the groundwork to embark upon research in this field.
