RRB ALP Exam Guide: All you need to know
If you have always been fascinated with the Indian Railways and are looking for a stable career in it, the RRB ALP role is one where you would handle various interesting responsibilities like assisting the loco driver, checking productivity and looking after repair of locomotives and identifying and reporting track defects. RRB ALP 2020 Exam Date:
Exam dates for RRB ALP 2020 are yet to be declared in view of the ongoing pandemic.
RRB ALP 2020 Eligibility Criteria:
Eligibility for RRB ALP comes under three headers- nationality, age and educational qualifications. In addition there are certain physical fitness criteria one has to fulfil. Following are details about each:
Nationality:
Candidate should be:
- A citizen of India, or
- A subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or
- Tibetan refugee who migrated to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of settling in India permanently, or
- An individual of Indian Origin who migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zambia, Zaire & Vietnam to settle permanently in India
Age limit:
Candidates should be at least 18 years of age, and not more than 30 years of age. However, some age relaxations are available for the following categories:
- OBC: 3 years
- SC/ST: 5 years
- PWD (UR): 10 years
- PWD OBC-Non creamy layer: 13 years
- PWD SC/ST: 15 years
Educational Qualifications:
Assistant Loco Pilot- Electrical
Candidate should be one of the below:
- Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from recognized institutions of NCVT/SCVT
- Matriculation / SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship
- 3 years Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Automobile Engineering
- Combination of various streams of these Engineering disciplines from a recognized Institution in lieu of ITI.
Assistant Loco Pilot- Mechanical
Candidate should be one of the below:
- Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from recognized institutions of NCVT/SCVT
- Matriculation / SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship
- 3 years Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Automobile Engineering
- Combination of various streams of these Engineering disciplines from a recognized Institution in lieu of ITI.
RRB ALP Total Vacancy:
Railway Recruitment Board is yet to release the RRB ALP vacancies for current year. They will be releasing the number of vacancies zone-wise.
RRB ALP Application Process:
- Visit the official RRB website of your region
- Click on the ‘Apply Now’ button
- Enter required details like Date of Birth, Phone number, etc.
- Verify phone number and email id to receive registration ID
- Login again with your Registration ID and password
- Fill other details and upload your photograph and signature
- Pay the application fees: The fees is Rs. 250 for SC/ST, ex-servicemen, females, minorities, transgender and economically backward classes, and Rs. 500 for general category candidates
- Review and submit your application and take a print out of the same
RRB ALP 2020 Admit Card:
Admit card for the RRB ALP exam is published online on the official RRB website. Once released, please visit the site, select your region and enter your registration number and date of birth. Then download and print the admit card for carrying it to your exam.
RRB ALP Salary Structure:
The pay scale of RRB ALP is Rs 19900. After the addition of various allowances such as House Rent Allowance (HRA), Dearness Allowance (DA), Running Allowance, Transport Allowance, etc. the cumulative salary comes to be Rs, 35000.
RRB ALP 2020 Selection Process:
Selection for the RRB ALP service occurs in three phases:
- First Stage Computer Based Test (CBT)
- Second Computer Based Test (CBT)
- Third Stage Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
The third phase is qualifying in nature. Hence, ALP result and selections are based on marks scored in CBT I and II.
RRB ALP Exam Syllabus:

RRB ALP 2020 Exam Pattern:
The pattern for various stages of the entrance procedure for RRB ALP are:
1) First Stage CBT: This is a 60 minutes long computer based test containing 75 MCQs. Each correct answer is marked +1 and each incorrect one is marked -0.3. Following are the sections of this test:
2)Second Stage CBT: This 2.5 hour long test consists of two parts, with 175 MCQs in all. Part A has 100 questions and has 90 minutes allotted to it. Part B has 75 questions and has 60 minutes allotted to it. As before, correct answers score +1, and incorrect score -0.3. Sections for both parts are as follows:

CBAT- Computer Based Aptitude Test:
There are five test batteries at this stage. Candidates have to score at least 42 in each to qualify.
RRB ALP 2020 Cut Off:
Cut off for the exam are released zone-wise along with the ALP result. The cut off for 2018-19 were as below:
