Can I crack UPSC without mathematics?

The IAS exam is considered a very difficult exam and if you are not good at Mathematics you should practice a lot to prepare for the exam. In the UPSC exam, there is only elementary-level Mathematics which is up to the 10th standard.

If you are thinking about choosing an optional subject then you must go to which you are interested. Opting for Mathematics only because toppers take it cannot be fruitful for you.

You must have attained the age between 21 to 32 years and graduated in any discipline from a recognized University to get eligible for the IAS exam.

The minimum qualification required to take the Civil Service exam is graduation from any recognised University with a minimum of 50% marks so you can definitely prepare yourself for the IAS exam without having Maths in 12th but you can't crack UPSC without studying Mathematics.

Don't need to have a Maths background to solve CSAT paper or any special study on Maths.

Several mathematical questions are asked in the CSAT paper in the Prelims exam. Mathematics is not required in the UPSC Mains exam until you choose Mathematics as optional but in the CSAT paper, you require aptitude so you will have to prepare for that.

Also, the mathematical questions have been getting trickier for the last 2 years.

There is also a negative marking applicable of 1.5 marks for each wrong answer.
