Vandalism in JNU Campus


According to eyewitness accounts, nearly 100 masked men entered the JNU campus in South Delhi on Sunday, Jan 5, terrorising students, faculty and admin. The vandals attacked students and facaulty alike, injuring 26. 


Eyewitnesses claim the vandals belonged to BJP’s youth wing party, ABVP, ABVP has denied the charge.


Context:


This is the second widespread attack on students in light of the anti-CAA protests, after the police action in Jamia in December. 

The JNU authorities had called in police soon after the attack began. In fact, it is claimed that police was outside the university gate when the miscreants entered the campu, but did not stop them,

The HRD ministry, Delhi government, opposition have all condemned the violence.

219 infants dead in 2 Gujarat hospitals in December


State-run hospitals in Rajkot and Ahmednagar see 219 deaths of infants in the month of December. Authorities claim they received referrals of sick patients from many, remote far flung areas and that could also be a reason behind severe cases and high fatality.


Context:


The opposition has slammed the government over these deaths. No major cause has been pinpointed for the toll.

India condemns Sikh killing in Pak


India has condemned the killing of a Sikh youth in Peshawar. Ravinder Singh, the younger brother of a TV anchor was shot dead by unidentified assailants.


Context:


The violence comes after stone-pelting in Kartarpur at the holy Sikh shrine of Nankana Sahib.

Violent incidents like these against non-Muslim minorities in neighbouring states has been one of the arguements used for CAA by the Indian government.
